Do you enjoy listening to Classical Music?

This group meets once a month in Newton Care Home, Newton Mearns, to listen to and discuss a wide range of classical music in a social environment. In addition, members can attend up to 6 or 7 daytime concerts a season in company, usually in Glasgow City Halls or the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. The list of selected potential concerts is usually emailed out to group members in advance. Some members only wish to attend the concerts, others go to the group meetings, and some do both.

At the monthly meeting, most of the time is given over to finding out more about a composer or a theme of the month, and listening to associated music - often with video of the performance.

In 2026 themes have included : Composers who also had other Jobs, Gustav Mahler, Rivers and the Sea, Spring, One for Sorrow, Two for Joy (sad and happy music), William Walton, Composers with Unusual Names (part 1), Musicals, Music of the English and French Revolutions. The year will end with presentations of music by Janacek and the composers of Czechia, and Ballet music.
