Do you enjoy listening to Classical Music?
This group meets once a month in Newton Care Home, Newton Mearns, to listen to and discuss a wide range of classical music in a social environment. In addition, members can attend up to 6 or 7 daytime concerts a season in company, usually in Glasgow City Halls or the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. The list of selected potential concerts is usually emailed out to group members in advance. Some members only wish to attend the concerts, others go to the group meetings, and some do both.
At the monthly meeting, most of the time is given over to finding out more about a composer or a theme of the month, and listening to associated music - often with video of the performance.
In 2025 themes included: Extreme vocalists, Shostakovich, Irish composers, Women Composers, Summer Music, Composers with Unfulfilled Potential, Unusual Time Signatures, Music that Recalls an Earlier Era, and Vaughan Williams.
In 2026 themes were: Composers who also had other Jobs, Gustav Mahler, Spring, One for Sorrow, Two for Joy (sad and happy music). Next up is William Walton.

Concert going will resume after the summer break. Details will be emailed to members.
