Deputy Facilitator: Elspeth Robinson
The Walking Group meets on the third and fourth Thursdays of the month. The same walk is repeated both weeks, giving members two dates from which to choose, with a limit of 20 walkers allowed each week. Places on each walk are allocated on a first come first served basis, and a prompt response to the Walk Email is necessary if you are interested in coming along.
This Group is suitable for people with a reasonable level of fitness and stamina who enjoy hiking several miles. Walks are mostly of around 5-7 miles/2.5-3.5 hours duration, and may include moderate hills and gradual slopes. Information will be provided regarding the availability of food and refreshment on the walk.
Members are sent full details of the upcoming walk by email beforehand which will enable them to decide on its suitability. Waterproofs and stout walking footwear are essential, plus additional warm layers in the winter.
All walks are undertaken at the individual member's own risk. Members must read the Personal Risk Assessment before deciding it is suitable for them to attend.
East Renfrewshire u3a's Car Sharing Guidance has been adopted by the Walking Group. This allows members requesting lifts to contribute towards the driver's fuel costs, calculated in accordance with the mileage rate outlined in the Guidance, which can be found on the Documents page. This will apply to all outings which are longer than 20 miles return.
